My parents say exercise 2 hours after eating. And to stay healthy many people say eat smaller portions virtually every 2 hours during the day. If I do this I get hungry. I eat. Therefore I can't exercise. Is this wrong? If so what is the correct reasoning? How long after eating can I exercise? When is the best...

Many people prefer to exercise in the morning. Gets the blood pumping and also eliminates the chances of something coming up later in the day, and sidelining the workout. However, any time you can do it, is better than not doing it at all. I'm a morning person and prefer to get my workout in before breakfast, but that doesn't often happen lately so I get it done when I can (usually after work around 4:30pm).

If you eat a big meal, wait at least 1 hour before doing exercise. A lot of people who workout in the morning, do it on an empty stomach, and that's fine too. You don't want to workout right after having a large meal, but it's fine to have a snack, 15 - 20 mins before your workout. Some people actually prefer that, to ensure they've got energy to get through their activity.

Yes, for weight management and to keep your metabolism running at a higher rate all day, eating approx every 2-1/2 - 3 hours throughout the day, is best. It's not required, but many find it helps keep them from getting real hungry because they never go more than 3 hrs without food, and you do burn a few more calories a day, with your metabolism staying up because it's constantly processing the food you've consumed.

Sounds to me like you're making an excuse not to exercise. You do not have to wait 2 hrs after eating to exercise. You do not need to eat every 2 hrs (around 3 is better AND not full meals...a small meal or snack is fine). You can also get up, workout, and then start your eating program for the day.

LOTS of health myths floating around. Get some science before you do anything. Many Many of the things we take for granted about food and health and exercise are simply not true. So don't waste your time on whatever your friends tell you.

Get a copy of "The Obesity Code" off Amazon books. It will take you through exercise and eating tying together thousands of studies over the years. Some REAL surprises in there.

Read it out loud........ and get off on the right foot.

The smaller portions through the day is actually wrong. Eat the normal 3 meals. And for exercising, I suggest any time you feel like it, half an hour or more after you eat, though.
