Is Xanax dangerous? Is it legally as bad as cocaine and heroine?
It is an effective drug for treating anxiety. I wouldn't say that its dangerous, but it is highly addictive and should be taken in conjunction with an antidepressant. It can be hard to get off of after long term use. It actually changes the way your brain works and it can take months or even a year to get back to normal. Quitting Xanax abruptly can cause some serious withdrawal symptoms, including seizures at higher doses. Xanax should be slowly tapered off of under your doctor's supervision. That being said, I was prescribed a small .5 mg dosage of Xanax before, during and after cancer treatment. I was not given an antidepressant and my doctor told me that my dose was small enough to simply quit. The only side effect I had was mildly increased anxiety for a couple of weeks. I think that it depends on the individual.
Yes, Xanax is dangerous. If you don't have a prescription for it, you can get into as much trouble legally as if you had cocaine and heroine.
